
'Fish Come up Dry in Ninth

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 in Friday night's game at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Southern Maryland jumped out first in the second inning with an RBI double by Brandon Jones (4-for-4, HR, 2 RBI). In the bottom half of the frame, Bridgeport responded with two runs of their own. Alexis Gomez (1-for-3, 2 R) led off with a walk and scored on a Matt Spencer RBI double with two outs. Yusuf Carter (3-for-4, RBI) followed that up with a single that scored Spencer.
The fourth inning is where the Blue Crabs grabbed control of the game. Alvin Colina and Brandon Jones connected on back-to-back homeruns and gave Southern Maryland a 3-2 advantage.
The Blue Crabs tacked on one more run in the sixth inning with a sac fly by second baseman Wladimir Sutil, to go up 4-2.
Bridgeport got one of those runs back in the eighth inning with a pair of two-out hits. The first by Gomez and the second was a run scoring double by Luis Lopez (2-for-4, RBI).
Bridgeport made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Jim Ed Warden entered the game to close it out for the Blue Crabs. Carter reached on a one-out single and was moved over to second on a ground out from Dan Barbero. Adam Greenberg walked to put the winning run on base. Daniel Mayora was hit by a pitch to load the bases and it was left up to Prentice Redman. He was sent back on strikes to end the game.
Keith Bilodeau (0-1) got his second start of the year for Bridgeport and ended up with his first loss of the season. He gave up nine hits and four runs (three earned) while pitching in a personal season high, six innings.
Daryl Thompson (2-2) started for Southern Maryland and got the win for the Blue Crabs. Thompson pitched into the seventh inning, giving up seven hits and two runs while walking two and striking out three, with Jim Ed Warden picking up his third save of the season.
The two teams will face each other in a double header on Saturday, May 11. Game one will be at 12:35 p.m. with Mike Parisi (1-1) facing Ian Marshall (1-1). Game two will be at 6:05 p.m. Bridgeport sends Ty'Relle Harris (1-0) to the mound against Southern Maryland's Logan Williamson (1-1).
