Halifax Hurricanes News Release
Halifax, NS - - The Halifax Hurricanes are pleased to announce two new player signings for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
The Club welcomes 6'8", 219lb wing CJ Washington to the team. Born in Demopolis, Atlanta, the 24 year old forward starred at Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College from 2011-13 and played college ball with the University of Alabama - Birmingham Blazers for two seasons. In 2013-14, Washington lead the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game, was second in rebounds and started 27 of 28 games played. "I am very excited to have him on board," says Coach Keathley. "C.J. comes highly recommended from his former coach at UAB, Richie Riley." In 2014-15, Washington helped the Blazers claim a Conference USA Tournament championship to earn a spot in the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011. "He's a player that will allow us to do a lot of different things offensively", continued Keathley. "He provides us with a lot of size at the small forward position. He can score in a variety of ways and finish in transition which is important in our offensive system of pushing the basketball."

"Anytime you can go out and sign a player with local ties you certainly make that move if it makes sense both on and off the floor", said Keathley. The Hurricanes are excited to add local baller, 6'5" 228lb
forward Tre Boutilier. "I had the opportunity to watch Tre in person last season as he played for Cumberland University in one of the toughest conferences in the nation. He was an All-Conference performer and showcased a very high basketball IQ. He had an outstanding coach in Donnie Butcher who certainly helped develop his talents." Having spent some time as a youngster in North Preston, Nova Scotia, Boutilier played his high school ball in Ontario averaging 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game in his senior year, 2011-12. Boutilier went on to play for Emporia State University, Miami Dade (Jr.) College and last season (2015-16) with the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (college) pulling down 5.8 points and 3.8 boards per game, 52.5% from the line and 56.3 field goal percentage. "At 6'5 Tre will give us size and versatility at the wing position. I'm excited to announce Tre as our first Canadian signing for this upcoming season."
