Indiana Ice News Release
THREE AND OUT: The Indiana Ice extended their Eastern Conference lead to seven points after capturing all six possible points in three weekend contests. Facing a 3-1 deficit with six minutes left in the contest, Indy rallied for a pair of third-period tallies en route to a 4-3 shootout road win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday. Aidan Muir, Patrick Newell and Scott Conway were the goal scorers, while Ryan Mantha and Sam Kurker finished the night with a pair of assists. In net, Jason Pawloski earned his 20th win with a 29-save effort. Hayden Stewart then initiated "beast mode" to earn back-to-back shutouts against the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday and Sunday. Stewart's 17 saves cuppled by goals by Brian Pinho, Tyler Pham and Sam Kurker gave the Ice a 3-0 victory on Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Stewart doubled up on the shot and shutout count as he stopped 34 bullets for the 2-0 win in Sunday's matinee match from the Covelli Centre. Newell's first-period tally proved to be the game winner while Pham added an insurance goal with under a minute remaining in the game.
STEWART'S SHOP: Hayden Stewart made 51 saves and a statement last weekend as the newly acquired goaltender is the first Iceman to record a shutout in back-to-back appearances since Jon Gillies-Providence did so during the 2010-2011 season (3/11/11 vs. Chicago, 3/25/11 vs. Des Moines). Since joining the roster in mid-January, the Rockford, IL-native has recorded a perfect 5-0-0 record with a 0.60 GAA and a .974 save percentage while allowing no more than one goal in every contest.
WELL, AIN'T THAT SPECIAL: A few minor blemishes aside, Indy's special teams played a pivotal role in capturing a six-point weekend as the team recorded three power play goals on 14 opportunities, a game-winning shorthanded goal on Saturday and went 16-of-17 on the penalty kill.
