Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (3-1-1, 10 points) returns home for the first test of a two-match homestand when the club hosts D.C. United (2-2-1, 7 points) at Crew Stadium on Saturday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is televising the game, with Dwight Burgess, Chris Doran and Ashleigh Ignelzi on the call. Neil Sika is set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game alongside John Bluem, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM. The match is also being aired on national radio via SiriusXM FC.
The Crew - currently in first place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference - is coming off a 1-1 draw at San Jose last Sunday that kept the club's road unbeaten streak alive (2-0-1). The Black & Gold now look to bounce back following its 2-0 loss against Toronto FC at Crew Stadium on April 5. They'll face a team they have already defeated in 2014, D.C. United, after the Crew opened its campaign with a 3-0 win at RFK Stadium on March 8. Since the two teams last met, D.C. has gone 2-1-1 and enters the weekend riding a three-match unbeaten streak.
The Crew has successfully defended its home field in six of the past seven meetings with D.C. United at Crew Stadium, as the Black & Gold have not lost to United at home since August 18, 2007 when the club was defeated 2-0. The Crew has gone 5-0-1 at home against United - with four straight wins - since that loss.
Saturday's meeting is the 58th regular-season clash in the all-time season series between the two teams dating back to 1996. D.C. holds a slight 25-24-8 overall advantage and while the Crew is 8-18-3 on the road at RFK Stadium, the Black & Gold are 16-7-5 against United at home.
Federico Higuain scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season last week to open the scoring in San Jose. Should the Crew get on the board first against United, the Black & Gold have a historical advantage of late. Since the start of 2009, the Crew has secured points in seven of the eight meetings between the Crew and United in which the Black & Gold have scored first.
