Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Two streaks collided on Saturday night in Lewiston, and both streaks were extended at the end of the day. The Lewiston MAINEiacs used five goals in the first period, en route to a 6-1 beating of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in front of 2,201 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The win extended Lewiston's winning streak to seven games, while bringing Baie-Comeau's winless streak to 22 games.
The MAINEiacs came out fast and furious, lighting the lamp five times in the opening stanza. Cameron Critchlow started the scoring at the 4:03 mark, slipping a backhander through Jason Missiaen's legs. 1:48 later, Etienne Brodeur found the back of the net on a mini 2-on-1 with Jess Tanguy. Later in the period, Lewiston scored another quick pair, as Stefan Fournier found the twine at 13:38, before a bomb by Olivier Dame-Malka at 14:38. Brodeur finished the period with his league-leading 20th goal of the season for a 5-0 Lewiston lead.
In the second period, Lewiston added one more goal, as Samuel Henley capitalized on an awkward bounce off of the boards.
With 1:52 left in the game, the Drakkar ended the shutout bid, as Alexandre Durette took advantage of a fortunate bounce of his own.
Nicholas Champion earned his 12th win in his last 13 starts, stopping all 12 shots he faced in 40:06 of action. Antoine Bibeau entered in relief, stopping four of the five shots he faced. Jason Missiaen suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 20 shots, while Simon Giroux made two saves on four shots in relief.
The MAINEiacs and Drakkar will play the second half of their weekend series on Sunday at 4:00.
