Firecats Tame Two Storms in Same Night

Estero, FL. - For the first time in franchise history the Florida Firecats won their 11th game during the regular season, 50-41 over their South Divisional opponents the Arkansas Twisters, and there are still 3 games yet to be played in the regular season.

4,621 fans braved the rains caused left behind by hurricane Dennis to see the Firecats improve to 7-0 against the rest of the South. Florida jumped out to an early lead when Offensive MVP Chris Wallace found Cainon Lamb for a huge 21 yard strike on 4th down. Arkansas made it 7-6 with a 1 yard TD run by Bryan Douzart. Iron Man of the Game Chris Morant scored his 1st of 3 TD's of the nite with a 1 yard run to make it 14-6.

The Twisters literally caught a lucky break when on 3rd and 25 QB Kevin Feterik's under thrown pass tipped off DS Roy Stabler's fingers in into Kevin Williams waiting hands and ran it in the final 5 yards. Kicker Dyllon Pohlman converted his only extra point of the night to bring it back to 1, 14-13.

Florida finally got the bounces that have been eluding them all year long when Magic Benton recovered a missed FG at the Arkansas 2 which Florida turned into 6 more points when Wallace found Tony Agee for a 2 yard TD pass. Kelly Snell corralled the ensuing kickoff in the Twisters end zone for 6 more bringing the score to 27-13. Florida capped off the 1st half scoring with a 6 yard TD reception by Chris Morant to make it 33-13 after 30 minutes.

Arkansas got back into the game when Ted Alford caught a 23yrd score and then Defensive MVP C.J. McLain scooped up a Firecats fumble and rumbled 43 yards for a score on the very next drive to make it 33-27 just 5 minutes into the 2nd half.

The teams then traded scores as Magic Benton caught his 29 TD of the season, followed by Steven Watson's 1 yard dive. Chris Morant scored his 3rd TD of the game on a 7yrd reception to make it 47-33.

Firecats kicker Brandon Kornblue, who has broken numerous records this season, tied another one by netting his 38th career 3-pointer to get the ‘Cats to 50. Kornblue now needs just one more FG to won that record as well.

The Twisters went down swinging when Robert Kilow caught a 5 yard TD pass as time expired and Arkansas converted for 2 to make the final score 50-41.

The Firecats host the Pioneers next week while the Twisters host the Knightss as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
