Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats today signed former Charlotte High QB Justin Midgett after just 20 minutes of a scheduled workout for the 2005 season. Receivers Magic Benton and Brent Burnside ran routes for Midgett to help him impress the coaching staff and front office.

"I saw him on Tuesday work out for about 2hrs for the Tampa Bay Storm and was again impressed with his abilities" said Firecats Head Coach Kevin Bouis. "I just wanted to see him make some passes to veteran indoor players, a lot of the guys at the Storm tryout weren't very experienced running routes indoors."

Midgett tried out for the team last season while the Firecats were in the midst of their 2004 ArenaCup title defense. With 2 veteran quarterbacks already on the team they decided not to sign the talented young QB at the time but said he would be of interest for the 2006 campaign.

"He's a tremendous young talent, I can hardly wait to begin working with him and teaching him the indoor game" Bouis went on to say. "He's only really had 6-7 workouts with any kind of arena team so he's got lots to learn about the game, but he can play."

The Former Charlotte Tarpon was one of the nations most prized prep quarterbacks as a senior in 2002 - when he threw for 2,489 yards and 21 touchdowns in leading the Tarpons to the Class 4A semifinals.

The Firecats will host an open tryout in either October or November. Last year the team signed former Michigan State TE Marcus Waters from one of the opening tryouts.
