Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the playoffs.
This Saturday at Germain Arena, the Florida Firecats (10-5) will go to war with the Tennessee Valley Vipers (11-4) for a number two seed and first round bye in the playoffs, which officially start next week.
"We need to come out aggressive, limit mistakes, and execute like we did the last time we played them," Magic Benton, offensive specialist, said.
The last time that the two teams met, the Firecats went into the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and knocked off the Vipers 53-30, ending a Tennessee Valley home winning streak that dated back to 2002. The game was pivotal in launching the Firecats into the second half of the regular season. The Firecats have since won seven of their last nine games.
"Defensively, we need to play our game- be physical and take away the deep ball," Kevin Bouis, Firecats defensive coordinator, said. "Offensively, we cannot turn the ball over, and we have to execute."
The winner of this contest will secure the number two seed for the playoffs. The number two-seeded team will receive a first round bye and a second round home playoff game. The loser will take the number three seed and host a first round playoff game against the sixth seed. The third seed will host the number four seed.
The lowest remaining seed will play at the number one ranked team in the second round. The highest remaining seed from the first round will play at the number two seed. The third round will be the American Conference championship game. The winner of the conference championship advances to the ArenaCup. The team with the best overall record from the regular season will host both the American Conference championship and ArenaCup.
The Firecats, who won their first division championship in franchise history on Monday night, will be hosting their first-ever home playoff game this post season.
Tickets for Saturday's battle are extremely limited. Anyone wanting to be part of the action needs to call the Firecats office now at (239) 390-2287. Come support your Florida Firecats as they make another run at the ArenaCup championship game!
