Manchester Wolves News Release

The Manchester Wolves ended their inaugural season in defeat as they dropped a hard-fought, 44-37, battle against the No.1-ranked W-B/Scranton Pioneers Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Pioneers (13-3) proved to be too much for the shorthanded Wolves, who succumbed down the stretch. Despite the tough loss, the Wolves, who finished the year at 5-11, put up a valiant effort in front of a rowdy home crowd of 7,652.

Wolves QB Chris Sanders was 22-of-40 for 245 yards, throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions. Sanders also rushed for three touchdowns. The veteran signal caller from Tennessee-Chattanooga finished 2004 as just the 10th player in league history to throw for over 4,000 yards (4,184). Sanders also set a team record with 66 touchdown passes.

The Wolves, who trailed the Pioneers 33-18 midway through the third quarter, pulled to within six early in the fourth after two touchdown runs by Chris Sanders. However,

W-B/Scranton WR/LB Rocco Forgione sealed the victory for the Pioneers with a 14-yard touchdown reception with just under four minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

The Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game was Pioneer QB Tim Hicks, who completed 12-of-23 for 194 yards and four touchdowns. W-B/Scranton's Ameer Riley earned the Army Ironman of the Game with four solo tackles on the night as well as one catch for nine yards. Kyle Grove rounded out the nightly sweep of game awards for the Pioneers as he earned the ADT Defensive Player of the Game with four solo and three assisted tackles (5.5 total), a 15-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and an interception return for 30 yards.
