Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats return home to Teco Arena tomorrow for the first time in five weeks.

The Firecats (4-3) will be hosting the Memphis Xplorers (4-3) tomorrow. The Xplorers handed the Firecats their first loss of the season on April 17 by a score of 54-51.

"We need to keep the momentum going and keep playing with the same consistency as last week," Cainon Lamb, Firecats receiver/linebacker, said.

Firecats receiver Cainon Lamb is set to break another team record. The first time that Cainon Lamb finds the end zone, he will become the all time leading scorer in the history of the team. Lamb currently has 41 receptions for 450 yards and 14 touchdowns. Last week, Lamb returned a kickoff for a touchdown, caught a 37-yard touchdown pass, ran in a fake field goal for a touchdown, and picked off a pass- all in the fourth quarter of a 53-30 win over the Tennessee Valley Vipers. It was the Vipers first home loss since 2002.

Under center will be quarterback Ken Mastrole. Mastrole has completed 133 of 226 pass attempts, and he has accumulated 1,540 yards and 38 touchdowns. In the backfield will be fullbacks Steve Gorrie and Chris Morant. The two combined for 62 yards in the first contest with Memphis, with Gorrie cashing in on two carries. Gorrie is also steadily approaching the team season rushing record of 220 yards. Gorrie already has 168 yards on the ground, and he has scored six times.

"We have been playing well," Gorrie said. "We need to come in and get a win so we can get southwest Florida excited about arena football."

Blocking up front for Gorrie will be Dunstan Anderson, Joe Fantigrassi, and Comone Fisher. Joining Lamb in the receiving corps will be Magic Benton, Anthony Snead, and Brent Burnside. Benton has caught 39 balls for 542 yards and 12 touchdowns. Snead has pulled in 19 passes and scored on nine of them. Burnside has caught 21 passes for 161 yards and three scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, Comone Fisher, Dunstan Anderson, and Keith Drayton look to get the starting nod on the line. Playing linebacker will be Cainon Lamb, Steve Gorrie, and Chris Morant. Quincy Sorrell, Roy Stabler, and Desmond Washington will get the nod in the defensive backfield. Sorrell is currently fifth in the league with 36.5 tackles.
