
Firecats Partner with Herocare to Benefit Widman Family

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have partnered with Herocare to help raise funds for the family of Ft. Myers Police Officer Andrew Widman. Beginning tomorrow the Firecats will donate five dollars ($5) from every ticket sold between Thursday July 24th and Saturday July 26th for this Saturday's game against Daytona Beach to Herocare.
"This is an opportunity for our fans to help the family of Officer Widman who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our community," said Firecats President/General Manager Chris Vallozzi.
Officer Widman was tragically shot and killed Friday night, July 18th while responding to a disturbance outside a club in downtow n Ft. Myers, FL. Officer Widman was only 30 years old and leaves behind a wife and three children, all under 5 years old.
The Firecats will honor Officer Widman with a moment of silence during halftime of this weekend's game. Herocare representatives will be on hand Saturday night to collect donations for the family.
Herocare officially launched a donation page on their Web site Saturday evening. Anyone interested in assisting the Widman family is asked to visit www.herocare.org and click on the "donate now" button. Web site donations will be in the form of credit and debit cards or e-checks, but donations can also be made to "Herocare, Inc." - c/o the Widman Family and mailed to their office. All funds collected will go directly to the Fallen Heroes Fund and the family.
