Estero, FL- At 13-2 the Firecats are having their best season in team history. Their 48-47 last second victory over the Green Bay Blizzard clinched home field advantage for the âCats for the 1st time in team history. Florida is 2-0 at home all time in the playoffs. In addition to the record season the team is having a number of players have reached individual milestones as well.
QB- Chris Wallace has now thrown 79 TD's this year becoming the Firecats single season TD pass leader. Wallace threw 4 TD's in the win to break Ken Mastrole's team record of 76. The league record is 93 in 1 season, but Wallace needs just 3 more to break into the league's top 10.
OS- Magic Benton caught his 32nd TD this year and is now the team's single season TD receiver. Magic has 96 TD receptions for his career.
WR/LB- Cainon Lamb has 119 combined (receiving, rushing, and kick returns) TD's in his career 2nd most in the league behind Mitch Allner's 126. He has 111 TD's receiving just 2 behind Allner's mark of 113.
DS- Kelly Snell has 96.5 tackles this year, 2nd highest single season mark in team history behind Quincy Sorrell's 100.5 last year. The league record is 121 in 1 year.
K- Brandon Kornblue currently has made 38 career field goals, tied with James Thomas who kicked 38 with Greensboro from 2000-2003. He needs just 1 more to become the leading kicker in 4 different career categories.
This week Florida travels Birmingham where they will look to end the regular season with a complete sweep of the South Division, Florida is 7-0 against the rest of the division this year. With a win Florida would join Quad Cities (03), Tulsa (02) and Tennessee Valley (01) as the only teams to go 14-2 in the regular season.
The 2nd round schedule has been set and the Firecats will host an opponent yet to be determined on August 13th with the kickoff scheduled for 7:40pm. Playoff tickets are now on sale.
