Firecats' Drayton Headed to AFL

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced that lineman Keith Drayton has signed with the AFL's Kansas City Brigade joining FB/LB Chris Morant who signed with the team last week.

The Ft. Myers native played with the 'Cats from 2003 to 2005 and played a vital role as a member of the Firecats 2004 Arena Cup Champion team. His quick 1st step off then line helped him collect 7.5 sacks during his tenure.

"He's so explosive off the line," said Firecats Assistant Head Coach and former line mate Victor Hall. "He's one of those guys that you can count on to provide constant pressure and you were glad he was on your team and not lining up against you."

Drayton made his presence known in college to when as a Georgia Bulldog early on. "It started at UGA, I blocked a kick in my first game against South Carolina," Drayton said. "I blocked four or five that year (1995) and we went to the Peach Bowl."

After the '95 season Keith spent time in the NY Jets training camp before ultimately landing in the af2 with the Pensacola Barracudas and the Jacksonville Tomcats. Drayton also was in camp last year with the Las Vegas Gladiators before rejoining the Firecats.

The Firecats will hold their next open tryout on Saturday January 21st at Estero High School at Estero High School Field - 21900 River Ranch Rd, Estero, FL 33928 at 10:00 a.m. Registration begins at 10 AM and workouts start at 11 AM. A $75.00 (Cash only) registration fee is due the day of the tryout. The tryout is open for all positions and will be conducted outdoors on natural grass. Players will be required to perform in a Prostyle Combine workout. All participants are required to bring their own shoes (outdoor cleats preferably) and other proper athletic workout attire. At the Firecats 1st open tryout the team signed University of Florida Safety Zephrin Augustine and Florida Atlantic DB Derek Zak from among the 50 or so players who attended the event.
