Firecats blank Wildcats

The arenafotball2 (af2) Florida Firecats blanked the South Georgia Wildcats in the third quarter of a 62-45 win over their division rival at home in week 14. The victory improved the Firecats to 6-7 on the year while the Wildcats dropped their third in a row falling to 8-5. South Georgia leads the series 2-1 so far this season.

The teams traded touchdowns thru the 1st half but missed extra points allowed Florida to take a 28-27 lead into halftime. The Firecats then scored on their first two possessions of the second half and led 42-27 to start the 4th quarter. The teams each scored three times in the final quarter but South Georgia couldn't convert the extra point attempts. They finished the night failing on four; two point conversion tries and also missed one extra point try in the loss.

Firecats quarterback Chris Wallace threw for just 174 yards but tossed six touchdowns and ran for two more in the win. His favorite target was James Panui who finished with three touchdown receptions and led all receivers with nine catches for 96 yards. ADT Defensive Player of the Game Anthony Hailstock led the team with seven tackles and one pass break up that kept the Wildcats out of the endzone on the final play of the 1st half. Florida had surrendered points inside the final 17 seconds of the first half in nine games this season.

QB Darnell Kennedy spread the ball around to Alvance Robinson, Clenton Rafe and Kelvin Dickinson and finishing the night passing for 272 yards and five touchdowns in the loss. Quentin Burrell had the only interception in the game.

The Firecats have a bye week next week before a rematch with the Wildcats in Albany, Georgia on Saturday July 11th. South Georgia is also off next week.
