Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Firebirds have waived four players, including quarterback Dameyune Craig, as their preparations for the 2003 Arena Football League season continue.
Also joining Craig on that list were WR/DB Jason Peace and FB/LB Jamel Smith, who were both left "unprotected" by the Firebirds prior to Tuesday's Expansion Draft. FB/LB Julian Duncan was also released after being selected in last Tuesday's Dispersal Draft.
Craig, who signed as a free agent last May, was 16-of-35 for 265 yards and threw six touchdowns in five games with Indiana last season.
Smith spent the last two seasons playing for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe where he totaled 67 tackles. Duncan also spent last season playing for the Fire where he tallied 16 tackles and six sacks. He was placed on the Toronto Phantom's exempt list last season and was then drafted by the Firebirds in this year's Dispersal Draft. Smith and Duncan, along with Jason Peace, saw no action with the Firebirds.
The 2003 season marks the historical debut of the AFL on NBC. The network will broadcast 71 games next season, including all playoff games and ArenaBowl XVII on June 22. The Firebirds kick off the 2003 regular season on Sunday, February 2nd against the Detroit Fury. Firebirds' season tickets for the 2003 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling a Firebirds' ticket representative at 317.472.8080.
