Firebirds Re-Sign Free Agent Foreman

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds announced that they have come to terms with free-agent WR/LB Shawn Foreman for the 2004 Arena Football League season. Foreman will enter his third season with the Firebirds, and fourth overall in the AFL. He is the third free-agent to re-sign with the team, joining teammates Eddie Brown and Leroy Thompson. Per team regulations, terms of the deal were not disclosed

Foreman (6'1, 210) became one of the Firebirds' best players on the defensive side of the ball in 2003. He finished 5th on the team with 42.5 total tackles (29 unassisted), tied for 2nd with three interceptions, while tying for the team lead with two fumble recoveries. Through the 13 games he played, Foreman also hauled in five passes for 81 yards, including three scores, and recorded two pass breakups. The first two passes he caught were good for touchdowns (19 and 34 yards).

As a rookie with the Oklahoma Wranglers in 2001, Foreman set franchise rookie scoring and receiving records, catching 34 passes for 414 yards with nine touchdowns, while racking up 23.5 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery on defense. He would spend the 2002 training camp with the Dallas Desparados before being released and coming to Indiana.. That season, his first with the Firebirds, he recorded 41.0 tackles (one for loss), one interception, two forced fumbles and one recovery. He also caught five passes for 29 yards.

Foreman entered the AFL as one of the most prolific wide receivers in the history of the University of West Virginia. He finished his four-year career ranking second in career receptions (169), second in receiving yards (2,347) and fourth in receiving touchdowns (16). He was an All-Big East performer as a junior and senior, setting a WVU single-season receiving record, catching 77 passes during his junior year. He also set the school record, catching a pass in 24 straight games for the Mountaineers.
