Flint Firebirds News Release

BRANTFORD, Ont. - Nolan Dann had a goal and an assist, Alex Kostov scored his first two goals as a Firebird and Jacob Brown made 24 saves on 25 shots as Flint outlasted the Brantford Bulldogs, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Brantford Civic Centre. The Firebirds won the fourth consecutive road game and their second in a row.

The Bulldogs started fast and struck just over two minutes into the opening period. Florian Xhekaj dangled around the defense and flicked a backhander on net. Brown got a piece of it but the puck trickled through his pads and into the net to give Brantford a 1-0 lead.

Flint answered with a power play goal late in the first. The Firebirds worked the puck around the perimeter until Roberto Mancini fed Dann at the right circle. He wired a wrist shot that snuck between the legs of Matteo Drobac, evening the game at one.

They then grabbed the lead in the second period with another power play goal. Dann was fed at the right circle and he blasted a shot on net. With Kostov providing a screen in front of the net, the shot deflected off his leg and bounced past Drobac to give the Firebirds a 2-1 advantage.

That lead maintained until the final minute of the third period when the Bulldogs lifted Drobac for an extra attacker. With an empty net waiting, Kostov cleared the puck to the Brantford end and went burning after it. He stripped Patrick Thomas, grabbed the loose puck and slung it into the empty net. Kostov's second goal of the game pushed the score to its 3-1 final.

Dann finished with two points and now has points in 19 of his last 20 games, Brown earned the win in his first appearance since January 13 and Kostov's eighth and ninth goals of the season represented his first points as a Firebird.

Flint improved to 21-25-3-1 in the win while Brantford dropped to 26-16-6-2. Flint will return to action on Wednesday night on home ice against the Sarnia Sting. Puck drop at the Dort Financial Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
