Firebirds Hire New Communications Director

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds have announced the hiring of Mike McCaffrey as the team's new Director of Communications. McCaffrey enters his first season in the Arena Football League, after spending the previous four in arenafootball2, and will serve as the main point of contact for all media inquiries regarding the Firebirds.

McCaffrey comes to Indianapolis from Albany, NY, where he served as Director of Communications/ Football Operations for the Albany Conquest (af2). The Conquest, who replaced the Firebirds as the arena football team of New York's Capital Region, finished the 2003 season with a 13-3 record and a second consecutive Northeast Division Championship.

An Albany native, McCaffrey spent three years (2000-02) with the Norfolk Nighthawks (af2) in several capacities, most recently as Vice President of Media Relations/Merchandise. In 2001 he was named to the league's PR Director's Committee, a group of five directors from around the league chosen to serve as mentors for new expansion teams entering af2.

McCaffrey holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sport Management from Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA). While attending ODU, he was given the opportunity to serve as the city's sports coordinator for the XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games, managing Olympic-style events for seven different sports and five separate sites.
