Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS â When the Indiana Firebirds host the Carolina Cobras on Easter Sunday the only way for you to see the hottest team in the Arena Football League, led by the hottest rookie in the entire league, is to be there in person. The game was scheduled to be televised on WTHR-13 (NBC) as part of the AFL on NBC broadcast schedule. However, NBC has decided not to air the Firebirds-Cobras match-up, opting instead to air the Chicago Rush (6-2) game versus the Tampa Bay Storm (3-6).
The Firebirds (4-5) have run off four straight wins under the direction of head coach Mike Wilpolt and feature one of the brightest young stars in all of professional football in rookie quarterback Adrian McPherson. McPherson has led the âBirds back from a winless (0-5) start to the 2004 season and has the team sitting just 1 ½ games out of the final playoff spot with seven games left to play. NBC schedules multiple games for each week prior to the start of the season and then as the season progresses they decide whether or not to show every game, or just air select contests.
Sunday's game, set to kickoff at 2:00 PM (local Indiana time) at Conseco Fieldhouse, will feature an appearance by the Easter Bunny and one of the most exciting Eater Egg Hunts in the Circle City. Beginning one hour prior to kickoff, kids will have the opportunity to look for one of 5,000 eggs hidden throughout the concourse. Possible prizes range from motorized scooters to Playstation2 game systems, while the first 1,000 kids will receive a chocolate Easter Bunny FREE.
Last Saturday night, the Firebirds went to overtime to defeat former head coach, Mike Dailey, and the Colorado Crush, 45-42. Kicker Clay Rush drilled a game-winning field goal for the second consecutive week and rookie OS Anthony Hines again had a huge game, catching 13 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Hines and McPherson are beginning to form one of the most electrifying young scoring combinations the AFL has seen. Now the fans of Indianapolis will have to travel to Conseco Fieldhouse, for the Firebirds' Easter Sunday Spectacular against Carolina, to catch a glimpse of the dynamic duo for themselves.
Fans can also listen to the game on ESPN 950AM, 95.9 WIJY FM, or via the internet broadcast at www.espn950.com. Firebirds' single game and group tickets for the 2004 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling a Firebirds' ticket representative at 317.472.8080.
