
Firebirds Announce Two Open Tryout Camps

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Firebirds of arenafootball2 announced today that the club will be holding two open tryouts for prospective players for the 2009 season. The first tryout will be held locally on Friday, January 23rd at the SportsPlex of Halfmoon (6 Corporate Drive, Halfmoon, NY 12065) and a second tryout will be held Saturday, January 24th at Morgan Park in Nashville, Tennessee (411 Hume Street, Nashville, TN 37208).
Registration for the Halfmoon tryout will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the tryout will begin promptly at 11 a.m. All position players are welcome to attend with the exception of kickers. To pre-register, contact Albany Firebirds Head Coach Tony Bowick at 518-487-2219 or via e-mail at Tbow70@aol.com. The tryout will be held indoors on a synthetic surface, therefore individuals should bring appropriate clothing and shoes and a mouthpiece.
"We are excited by the initial response from some of the local players looking to attend the tryout in Halfmoon, "said Coach Bowick. "The addition of a second tryout in Nashville allows us to get a look at a few players from different areas, so that can only be a plus."
Registration for the Nashville tryout will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the tryout begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. All position players, including kickers, are welcome to attend. The tryout will be held outdoors on a natural grass surface, therefore individuals should bring appropriate clothing and shoes and a mouthpiece.
A $50 non-refundable fee is required for all pre-registered participants. Athletes who come to the tryout without prior notice will be charged $60. Participants should be prepared to complete any drills that are done at professional football combines or tryouts including but limited to Short Shuttle, 40-Yard Dash, Broad Jump, One-on-One Drills and Position Drills.

The Albany Firebirds will begin their 2009 regular season schedule on March 27th at Mahoning Valley, while their first home game is set for April 10th against the Florida Firecats at the Times Union Center.
