FireAnts sink Lake Charles, 65-38

Tupelo, MS--The Tupelo FireAnts returned to action in the Atlantic South Division with a 65-38 victory over the Lake Charles LandSharks tonight in front of 1,710 fans at the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

The FireAnts were led on offense by Will Hall, who completed 10 of 15 passes for 129 yards, with 2 touchdowns and an interception, in addition to carrying the ball 6 times for 20 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Rico McDonald had 8 carries for 40 yards and 2 touchdowns while fellow halfback Joe Gunn ran the ball 4 times for 30 yards. Darryl Carter had 2 receptions, both for touchdowns in the second half of the game. David Mooneyham had 3 receptions for 57 yards. Rico McDonald had 4 receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown while Joe Gunn had 2 for 16 yards. Eric Bingham had 2 interceptions, returning one 47 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Bobby Hill had 4 kick returns for a total of 63 yards, while Joe Gunn returned 3 for 43 yards. On defense, Ricky Franklin lead the team with 10 tackles. Eric Bingham had 7 tackles, including one for a loss, and 2 passes defended. Patrick Garth tallied 3.5 sacks on the night and Reggie Smith had a sack of his own. Tupelo totaled 87 yards rushing and 159 yards passing for a total of 246 yards of offense, with 14 first downs and 6 penalties for 23 yards.

The LandSharks were led on offense by quarterback Freddie Harrison who completed 15 of 33 pass attempts for 169 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception, while he ran the ball 3 times for 21 yards. Running back Aaron Pierce had 11 carries for 71 yards and 3 touchdowns. Nick Dugas had 6 receptions for 59 yards, while Jermaine Martin had 5 receptions for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Jermaine Martin returned 6 kicks for 102 yards. On defense, Darnell Lee had a team-high 7.5 tackles, while Tyree Broden had 6.5 tackles. Lake Charles totaled 103 yards rushing and 151 yards passing for a total of 254 yards of offense, with 15 first downs and 8 penalties for 54 yards.

Tupelo's record improves to 6-2, while Lake Charles' record drops to 2-6. The FireAnts will return to action this Friday as the Houma Bayou Bucks visit the BancorpSouth Center.
