Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO, IL (April 6, 2009) - The Chicago Fire today announced that the club has signed goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra to a developmental contract and he has be added to the team's 24-man roster as a disabled list replacement for midfielder Peter Lowry. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced.
A four year starter for Virginia Commonwealth University, Dykstra started and played in all 18 matches for VCU in his senior season, posting a saves percentage of 0.795. In 2008, Dykstra was named to the All-CAA Second Team and recognized as the goalkeeper on the 2008 Scholar All-East Third Team. In 2007, he started all 20 games for the Rams recording a career high 56 saves for a goals-against average of 0.90 while posting five shutouts through 12 wins. The Honolulu, Hawaii native was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team during his 2005 season and honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 17 following a pair of conference victories over Delaware and Drexel.
Lowry was placed on the disabled list due to a left knee strain and will be unavailable for a minimum of six league matches. The soonest Lowry could be available to rejoin the roster and be available for selection is the Fire's May 16 match against Toronto.
After picking up seven points through their first three games, the Fire, tied for first place in the Eastern Conference, return to action on Saturday, April 11 against the San Jose Earthquakes while on the road at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Fire will next play at TOYOYA PARK on Saturday, April 18 as the team faces the Kansas City Wizards. Tickets are available now by calling 1-888-MLS-FIRE or clicking on the TICKETS link on the club's official website, www.chicago-fire.com.
