Fire earn win over Conquest in final seconds, 62-56

Albany, N.Y. April 24, 2004 – James Scott (OS) scored on a nine-yard TD pass from quarterback Matt Sauk with just three seconds remaining in the game giving Louisville Fire a 62-56 victory over the Albany Conquest at the Pepsi Arena on Saturday evening.

"That was an emotional game," said Albany Conquest Head Coach Steve Matthews. "We fought back and put ourselves in a position to win, but Louisville is a tough team and they did not give up either," added Matthews.

Sauk, who earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors, threw seven TD passes with just one interception and was 20-of-32 passing for 290 yards. Scott had 12 catches for 171 yards and four TD receptions for the Fire (3-0).

The Albany Conquest (0-3) had taken the lead, 56-55, with 13 seconds remaining in the game on a Jamie Ware (WR/DB) 2-yard TD run. Ware caught five passes for 90 yards with two receiving TD's and one rushing score, along with three passes broken up on defense to help earn him the US Army Ironman of the Game honors.

Conquest QB Gus Ornstein was 18-of-32 passing for 265 yards with seven TD's and just one interception. In addition to his two touchdown throws to Ware, he threw two each to Tony Locke (OS) and Jeff Higgins (WR/LB), and one to Adriel Linyear (WR/LB).
