Fire Beefs Up Roster

January 25, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Louisville Fire News Release

The Louisville Fire Arena Football team announced the addition of eight new players for the 2007 season. The following players have been assigned to the Fire by the arenafootball2 league office, Joel Steele (quarterback), Demetrius Forney (fullback/linebacker), Tony Stallings (wide receiver/defensive back), Eddie Yauch (offensive/defensive lineman), Jason Jones (OL/DL), Lawrence Matthews (wide receiver/linebacker), Matt Forbes (defensive specialist) and Nick Roberts (WR/DB)

Demetrius "The Freight Train" Forney (Campbellsville), a Louisville native and Shawnee High School alum, returns to the Fire after a one year stint in Manchester. Forney will begin his fourth season with the Fire and can play four different positions, fullback, linebacker, offensive line and defensive line. In 2005 Forney helped lead the Fire to the American Conference Championship with nine rushing touchdowns on offense and 30 tackles on defense. Forney is also the Fire's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 28.

Tony Stallings, a former University of Louisville running back and linebacker, returns to the Fire after a stint in the Canadian Football League. Stallings is also a multi-purpose threat who can run the ball out of the wide receiver position and a kick return specialist. Stallings was also a member of the Fire's first team to make the playoffs in 2004.

Matt Forbes (William Penn), in his fifth af2 season, has consistently been at the top of the af2 in interceptions from the defensive specialist position. Forbes spent three years Fire division rivals Quad City and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Forbes is tied for the all-time af2 lead in interceptions at 27, with former Fire DS Arkee Thompson.

Joel Steele (Anderson) has spent two seasons as the back up quarterback for the Fire and is a front runner to win the starting position going into training camp. Steele will bring valuable experience as he spent the 2005 season behind Offensive Player of the Year Matt Sauk and the 2006 season behind Rookie of the Year Brett Dietz.

Lawrence Matthews (Western Illinois) begins his third season with the Fire as a WR/LB. Matthews contributes heavily on both sides of the ball. His 6'5 frame allows him to knock down passes on defense and out jump defenders on offense.

Eddie Yauch (Langston) will begin his second season with the Fire as an offensive lineman. Yauch played in all 16 regular season games and the Fire's playoff game at Memphis.

Nick Roberts (Gardner Webb) and Jason Jones (Idaho) will both be in their first seasons with the Fire.

Season tickets for the 2007 season are now on sale starting at just $56. Season tickets include a post game concert with the Charlie Daniels band following the April 13 game. Tickets can be purchased by calling 502-368-0009 or at louisvillefirefootball.com.
