Fields, Cantrell Top Honor Roll

Boise, Idaho (Feb. 10, 2003)— The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Rockford Lightning guard Ronnie Fields was named American Conference Player of the Week, while Yakima Sun Kings forward Damien Cantrell earned National Conference honors, for the period of February 2-8.

Fields averaged a league high 32.5 ppg in leading the Lightning to a 3-1 record last week. He also posted 4.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, and 2.0 spg. Fields, who won the award twice during the 1998-99 season, has scored at least 20 points in 11 straight games, dating back to January 19. In those 11 games, the 1997 All-Rookie Second Team member has reached 30 or more points six times and surpassed the 40-point plateau twice.

Cantrell, who has won four of the last six Player of the Week awards in the National Conference, again led his team to a successful week (2-1) behind his 20.0 ppg, 17.3 rpg, and 4.7 apg. He recorded double-doubles in all three games, not scoring less than 17 points and not pulling down less than 15 rebounds.

Other players receiving consideration for American Conference honors were Grand Rapids guard Immanuel McElroy (20.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Great Lakes guard Tyson Wheeler (20.8 ppg, 9.5 apg), and Gary guard Bryant Notree (24.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg). The three other players receiving consideration in the National Conference were Dakota forward Andy Panko (26.0 ppg, .909 ft% 30-33), Sioux Falls guard Kelley McClure (19.3 ppg, 7.7 apg), and Idaho guard Ruben Nembhard (21.7 ppg, 7.7 apg).
