Titans Hold On For 7-6 Victory
By: Tommy Pecoraro
The Titans came onto the Danbury Arena ice, all is normal, except they are playing role of road team as the cross border rival Bulldogs call the arena home for tonight only. The Bulldogs, who have points in 6 of their last 7 games, came in rested, having only this game to play, and Danbury coming back after two road games and tired, seemingly, for tonight's contest. The goals came fast and furious, and everything else along with it, and Danbury would take the win, 7-6.
Danbury scored the first goal 1:54 in, from Ryan Patsch. Brewster responded with 2 quick goals before even reaching the 5 minute mark, both from Alex Johnson. The Titans would respond with a goal from John Scorcia after a brief tilt between Patsch and Tristan Lysko. The Bulldogs regained the lead on the power play as Nikolai Okhlobystin made it 3-2, then minutes later making it 4-2 by putting the puck in off a Danbury player. The period would end in some fireworks after Tristan Lysko got in his 2nd fight of the evening against Aaron Atwell. In the 2nd period the Titans would come alive, scoring the first of 5 unanswered goals, starting on a 5 on 3 man advantage. Phil Bronner scored on the 2 man advantage, and 16 seconds later Tyler Gjurich scored on the 5 on 4 to tie the game. The onslaught continued as Mike Driscoll scored with 2:10 to go to give Danbury the lead, and Phil Bronner scored a power play goal with only 22 seconds left to send Brewster to the locker room down two goals. Danbury would score again in the 3rd period from Tyler Gjurich at the halfway point to make it 7-4. The Bulldogs would rally late, as they pulled James Robbins and scored an extra attacker goal from Sean Maktaak with 2:41 remaining. At 7-5 now, the Bulldogs would get even closer with a power play, scoring with 1:30 to go, from John Scully to make it 7-6. However it was not enough to tie the game and the Titans would win 7-6.
For Brewster, Alex Johnson and Nikolai Okhlobystin had 2 goals and an assist each, John Scully had a goal and 3 assists, Sean Maktaak with a goal and 2 assists, and Ryan Dolence had 2 assists. By Easton Hoskins
First period of the Danville Dashers and the Berlin Riverdrivers was full of amazing saves off good shots by both teams. During the first period of play there was only one penalty and it was on the Danville Dashers own Aleh Shypitsyn who was called for boarding, while on the Power Play, Berlin did not seize on the opportunity to score and Danville killed the penalty. The period was filled with tons of action between but no scoring.
After the scoreless first period, the second period exploded with goals, most of them by the Dashers. To start the goal scoring, Danville stuck first as Dan Turgeon got one past the Riverdrivers goalie to open up the period, Derrick Shwartz and Ray Tremblay assisted the goal.. Following the goal Danville's own Aleh Shipitsyn was called for his second penalty of the night, this time for interference. With thirteen seconds left on the Power Play the River Drivers capitalized on the man advantage to tie it up, but the officials called a no goal as it was scored off a high stick. As the period when on shortly after Tergeon's goal, Marcus Mitchell assisted by Andrew Harrison and Scott Morongell, he scored the Dashers second goal of the night and give them a 2-0 lead. After a couple minutes went by another Dashers goal was scored but this time by A.J. Tesoriero, Danville's third goal, assisting him were Justin Brausen and Dan Turgeon. Towards the end of the period, Berlin got called on another penalty and this time Danville scored on their Power Play, scoring their fifth goal of the night was Ray Tremblay, assisting him were A.J. Tesoriero and Scott Morongell. Soon after Matt Anthony came out of the net to play the puck but failed as Berlin scored their first goal of the night to make it 5-1 going into the third.
Last period of action started up fast as Berlin scored to make it a 5-2 game. Not too long after that they scored again to make it 5-3. They scored those two goals within a matter of two minutes and thirty seconds. It looked like Berlin had the momentum throughout the third period and the way they were playing it looked like they just might make a comeback. Late in the third period the Dashers scored their sixth goal of the night to seal the deal against Berlin 6-3. The David S. Palmer Arena was packed tonight as the attendance was 2,135 and the Dashers gave those fans an electrifying win.
