Berlin Score Four in the First, Win 5-1 in Dayton
Dayton, OH - The Berlin River Drivers score four times in the opening period and hold a resurgent Dayton Demolition squad to just one goal on 42 shots in a 5-1 win. For Tom Tracy and Rich Ledy, it was a homecoming of sorts playing against their former team.
Berlin got the log rolling at the 3:02 mark with Pavel Kubena flashing his 7th goal of the year on Dayton's starter Brent Troyan. Kubena's lone score of the night was handled with care by Jiri Pestuka and Brantley Sherwood. Forty seconds after, it was Tom Tracy working alongside with Tyler Prendergast for the second goal of the night. Tracy scored his 2nd goal with Berlin and his tenth of the year, with Rich Ledy helping out the cause. Berlin quickly went up 2-0 within four minutes of the game.
Berlin added a Power Play goal nearly five minutes later, the first on the night from Prendergast. Tyler's first strike looped past Troyan from Andre Niec and Tom Tracy on the River Drivers' first power play of the night. Prendergast then connected on a short-handed offer on Dayton's first man advantage of the game, with only Tracy driving it to the speedy forward. Both teams left the ice with a 4-0 Berlin advantage.
Karac Davis came in late in the 1st Period, replacing an injured Brent Troyan. Davis turned away every shot he faced on the night, resulting in a 14 save performance in 47 minutes of work.
Dayton came out with fire, intenseness, and a head full of steam in the second, compiling shot after shot. Berlin's Ryan Donovan continued the shutout through the two periods, until the middle of the 3rd.
The Demolition's lone goal was a Martin Uhnak breakaway, for his 13th goal of the year. Uhnak came in to the game being tied for 14th place in the FHL with most goals, leading the Wrecking Crew.
While Dayton countered late with a 6-on-4 Extra Attacker Power Play, Tracy rips the puck towards the neutral zone and allows Prendergast to score his third goal on the night and send the hometown fans home with a 5-1 defeat. In the game, the two teams combined for 123 minutes of penalties and twenty power play opportunities.
Dayton falls to 7-17-3 on the year and Berlin improves to 9-15-4, 4-10 away from home. For his 41 save win, Donovan was presented the third star. Tom Tracy won the 2nd star with a three assist, one goal night. Tyler Prendergast won the top star in the game with a Hat Trick and an assist to dish.
The Demolition will play one more home game this weekend, hosting the Port Huron Prowlers on Saturday Night at 7:30. For more information on tickets and broadcasting information, visit demolitionhockey.com.
