Tri-Cities Fever News Release
Around the office we have re-modeled and re-painted our digs downstairs in the Toyota Center. Come take a look, grab a picture of yourself holding the Intense Conference Championship trophy and take care of your season seats for 2012.
The Fever and Coach Shackleford continued to assemble its training camp roster adding four new players for 2012. The Fever, the IFL's defending Intense Conference champions, now has five players signed for next season. Of the four players signed, one is a familiar name, but not face.
Coach re-signed Quarterback Theo Scott. Scott, who signed prior to the 2011 season, did not report for the Fever last season. Scott is Ohio University's all-time leading passer and led the team to a 10-3 regular-season record and a spot in the Little Caesars Bowl against Marshall in 2009. In 14 games, he completed 199-of-344 passes for 2,369 yards and 20 touchdowns.
"Theo Scott is a very good quarterback," Shackleford said. "His intangibles cannot be taught." Go to the Fever Facebook page and click the link posted to catch the YouTube highlight footage of Scott.
The Fever also signed another Ohio University alum in defensive lineman Ernie Hodge (6-foot-2, 295 pounds). Hodge started every game his final two seasons for the Bobcats recording 14 solo tackles and 22 assists in his senior season last year.
"Because of the NFL lockout guys like Ernie Hodge missed NFL opportunities," Shackleford said.
More recently, the Fever added defensive back Marquise Liverpool, a 2011 free agent with the Detroit Lions this fall. He was a three-year starter at Temple University and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 2004 amateur draft. Liverpool played his baseball option out first before coming back to football and the Tri-Cities Fever.
"Marquise is an outstanding athlete and football player," Shackleford said. "Signing an NFL contract in a lockout year means a lot of people have taken notice of his ability."
Finally, the Fever announced the signing of defensive lineman Shane McCord (6 foot 2 305 lb) out of the University of Kentucky. McCord played in 29 games during his career including all 13 games in 2009 as a junior, 11 games as a sophomore and appeared in 5 games as a true freshman. The biggest play of his career came in his home state of Georgia. McCord intercepting a 4th quarter pass and returning it 15 yards to the 8-yard line, setting up the game winning touchdown against the Bulldogs.
