Fever Ready To Put Complete Game Together

April 1, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Tri-Cities Fever News Release

The Tri-Cities Fever has played a good second half. It has played a good first half.

Now, the Fever just need to put four quarters together to pick up their first-ever Indoor Football League victory. And according to some of the players, those four consistent quarters are not too far away.

"We're almost there," said receiver Thryon Lewis after the Fever's 55-49 home loss to Kent on Saturday. "I guarantee we will put four straight good quarters together."

The Fever's (0-3) next chance comes a week from Saturday on April 10 against Pacific North Division foe the Fairbanks Grizzlies at Toyota Center.

The last time the two teams met it turned out to be an epic four-overtime game the Fever lost 69-67 in Fairbanks.

In that game the Fever rebounded from a slow start in its IFL debut and used a huge second half to catch the Grizzlies and force overtime.

Last Saturday against Kent, the Fever had a huge first half, scoring on five of its seven possessions racking up 35 points, but could not keep it going after halftime.

Lewis did his best to put on a show in the first half, scoring three touchdowns. His final one of the second quarter came as time expired with him lunging over the goal line for the tying score.

On the night, Lewis finished with seven catches for 170 yards and four touchdowns. Lewis had 10 catches for 117 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games combined this season.

"We had it going in the first half, we just couldn't match that in the second," Lewis said.

GOOD-BYE, BYES:The Fever has its last bye week of the season this weekend before playing the final 11 weeks of the season, starting April 10 against Fairbanks.

A LONG WAY TO GO: Despite being 0-3, the Fever has 11 games left in the regular season, including 10 games against division opponents. As coach Adam Shackleford always puts it. "It's a marathon and not a sprint."

CHANGES COMING?: Shackleford said after Saturday's game that he has offered contracts to some potential players. Shackleford has not made any changes yet, but said some moves could come later this week.

UP-TO-DATE STATS: After Lewis' big game Saturday night, he now ranks second in the league in TD receptions with eight. Wichita's Clinton Solomon leads the league with nine, but has played in one more game than Lewis. ... Quarterback Andy Collins is tied for fifth in the league in TD passes with 12. ...
