Fever Can't Overcome Slow Start, Falls to Empire

SPOKANE - The Tri-Cities Fever did its best to rally in the second half, but came up short in a 45-23 loss to the Spokane Empire on Friday night at Spokane Arena.
The Fever (3-10) got behind 39-9 in the first half and thanks to a great defensive effort in the second half fought back in the game. But two drives came up empty with the score 39-23, and the Empire got a late touchdown by Travis Kennedy to pull away.
The Empire finish the regular season 4-0 against the Fever.
It is the Fever's fifth straight loss. Tri-Cities returns home next Saturday night to play host to the Green Bay Blizzard. In order to grab one of the three Intense Conference playoff spots, the Fever will likely need to win its final three games of the season and hope for some help along the way. Tri-Cities started the night two games behind both Billings and Nebraska.
Tri-Cities, which has struggled with scoring droughts all season, suffered through one in the first half Friday night. Trailing 33-9, the Fever set up to kick a field in the closing seconds of the first half. But the kick was blocked and returned for an Empire touchdown to push the lead to 39-9. Tri-Cities rallied and scored the first 14 points of the second half, but could not get any closer.
