Fernando Álvarez Called up by Colombia U23 Team

MONTREAL - CF Montréal defender Fernando Álvarez has been selected by Colombia's U23 national team for two friendly matches during the upcoming FIFA international break from December 5 to 19.

Colombia's U23 team, preparing for the CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament, will face Peru's U23 squad on December 9 at the Estadio Jaime Morón in Cartagena and on December 12 at the Estadio Romelio Martínez in Barranquilla.

Álvarez is selected at U23 level for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old defender last played for the national team at the FIFA U20 2023 World Cup last May. He helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, where they lost to Italy.

Álvarez made his debut for the Colombian U20 national team on September 25, 2022, after representing Mexico at U16 and U18 levels. He has made a total of 15 appearances for Colombia's U20 team.
