Augusta Lynx News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. (July 8, 2008)- The Augusta Lynx announced today that head coach Bob Ferguson has accepted a new position in the NHL's Anaheim Ducks organization as the Assistant General Manager for their AHL team in Des Moines, Iowa.
"The entire organization wishes Bob the best in his new opportunity," General Manager Dan Troutman said. "While we will miss his leadership behind the Lynx bench, we were pleased to grant Anaheim's request to speak with and ultimately hire Bob."
The Lynx have already begun the search for a new head coach and director of hockey operations, Troutman said, and hope to make an announcement by the end of the month.
"The ECHL is a premier developmental league, and as such we strive to push our employees to the next level," Troutman said. "We are very proud that in this year alone we have seen our broadcaster and our coach progress in their careers."
Ferguson leaves the Lynx after three full seasons as head coach and director of hockey operations. In his new role, Ferguson will serve as the primary liaison between the hockey operations and business side of Anaheim's minor-league affiliate.
During his time with the Lynx, Ferguson compiled a 101-100-6-9 record in 216 career regular-season games with the Lynx, earning him a .502 winning percentage and reaching the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each year of his tenure.
Prior to beginning his coaching tenure in Augusta in 2005, Ferguson coached two separate stints with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the junior-level United States Hockey League, first from 1990-91 through 1994-95 and again from 2001-02 through 2003-04. While with the Buccaneers, Ferguson compiled 258-134-13-16 record in 421 regular-season games, earning him a .652 winning percentage.
Overall, Ferguson has been a head coach since the 1981-82 season with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. In his 26 seasons behind the bench with Sioux City, Des Moines, Indianapolis of the International Hockey League, Florida of the ECHL and the Lynx, Ferguson has a 878-548-41-60 record in 1527 regular-season games, good for a .617 winning percentage. During his illustrious career, Ferguson has been a five-time USHL Playoff Champion, five-time USHL regular-season champion, three-time USA Hockey National Champion, five-time USHL Coach of the Year, five-time USHL General Manager of the Year, the ACHA Kelley Award winner for coaching achievement, and a two-time ECHL Coach of the Year.
