Fennell, Trevino Set to Return to Loggers in 2016

La Crosse, Wis. - The La Crosse Loggers baseball club announced today that they have re-signed a pair of key contributors from their 2015 club for the 2016 season. Sophomores Grant Fennell (Nevada) and Luis Trevino (Navarro JC) will both be returning to dawn the Logger green next summer and re-join the already signed Mason McCoy (Iowa), Kevin Flemer (Cal) and Jack Ralston (UCLA).

Fennell was one the Loggers top offensive threats throughout the first month of the 2015 season before an oblique injury shortened his summer. Through 25 games played, the right-handed hitter from the University of Nevada hit a robust .329 with nine doubles, one home run and 13 RBI's. The San Diego, Calif. native also saw a significant amount of action as a true freshman at Nevada this past spring, hitting .269 with six doubles, one home run and 14 RBI's. Fennell, who has the ability to play both in the outfield and in the infield, was a Perfect Game Underclass All-American in both 2012 and 2013.

Trevino started the 2015 campaign on a temporary contract with the Loggers, but was later retained after the Lumbermen lost a pair of backstops late in the season opening the door for the strong-armed catcher to return. The Mission, Texas native made the most of his time in La Crosse, hitting .345 over 18 games played with eight RBI's. The 5-11, 200 pound catcher was tabbed as the "Freshman of the Year" in the Region XIV Conference that Navarro competes in after hitting .417 with three home runs and 22 RBI's.

Fennell, Trevino and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2016 season on the road on May 31, 2016 when they travel to Kenosha to take on the defending NWL Champions. The 2016 home opener is then set for Thursday, June 2 when the Loggers welcome the St. Cloud Rox to the Lumber Yard for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
