Brooklyn Aviators News Release
BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators picked up their second win in as many nights against the Danbury Whalers with a 6-2 victory on Friday night at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Federal Hockey League action.
Jesse Felten led the way for the Aviators offensively with three goals and an assist for four points on the contest.
Brooklyn struck first in the opening period on Matt Atsoff's 15th tally of the season at the 14:44 mark. Aviators defenseman Andrew Scampoli broke into the Whalers zone along the right wing, and fed Atsoff with a pass in the slot. The rookie forward buried the puck past Danbury goalie Nick Niedert to give Brooklyn the 1-0 lead after one period of play.
Felten would record his first goal of the second period to put the Aviators up 2-0 at the 6:29 spot of the middle frame on a short-handed tally for his 21st marker of the year. The newly appointed assistant captain for the Aviators then buried his second of the night on the power play after redirecting Ken Trentowski's slap shot past Niedert with 10:08 left in the second. With just 38-seconds left in the frame, and down 3-0, James Sanford let a wrist shot go from the high slot which got past new A's netminder Mike DiLorenzo on the power play for the Whalers first tally on the night.
Halfway through the third period Brooklyn found the back of the net twice from Scampoli and Felten, who completed the hat trick, to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Chris Seifert's wrist shot got under the glove of DiLorenzo to make the score 5-2, however Steve Koich's late tally with 2:00 left in the game iced the 6-2 victory for Brooklyn.
DiLeorenzo earned his first win in an Aviators uniform making 36 saves, while Niedert is charged with the loss despite putting aside 29 shots.
The Aviators return to action tomorrow night when they take on the New Jersey Outlaws at the Capital One Ice Vault in Wayne, NJ. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and can be watched live via the Outlaws broadcast network powered by LiveSportsVideo.com.
