Outlaws Down Bluefins, 4-2
Hyannis, MA - The Federal Hockey League's first place team, New Jersey Outlaws came into the Hyannis Youth and Community Center having won their previous 2 games. The home town Bluefins had their own 2 game win streak going after a road trip on which they took two games from the Danville Dashers. The Outlaws ended up on top by a final score of 4-2
The Outlaws opened up the scoring at 15:04 of the second period when Jason Reese took a cross ice feed from Mathew Puntureri and one timed a hard slap shot that Bluefins goalie Wes Vesprini couldn't stop putting the visitors up 1-0. In the period, The Fins had some quality scoring chances, including a 5-3 power play but they failed to capitalize and at 7:30 the Outlaws struck again when Trevor Karaciewicz jumped on a Travis Kauffedlt rebound and slid it past the outstretched Vesprini to make it 2-0 New Jersey. However, the home town team did not give up their aggressive play that had kept them in the game to this point and at 4:48 Todd Chinova stole an errant Outlaw pass and hit his line mate, Dan Gordon pulling Outlaws Goalie Adam Dekker to his right. Gordon, playing in his first game back after an ankle that injury kept him sidelined for 2 months, quickly one timed a pass back to Chinova who slid it into an open net. It was Chinova's 4th of the season. The score stood at 2-1 after 2 periods and the shots were 35-17 in favor of the Bluefins.
The Outlaws lit the lamp again at 14:59 of the third period when Kauffedlt netted his 31st goal of the season after stealing a Bluefin pass and walking in alone on Vesprini. The Bluefins, down 3-1 seemed to run out of gas and the visitors again found the back of the net when Kauffedlt again cashed in making it 4-1. But a Derek Scanlon shot that missed the net high and off the glass bounced in front of the goal and Brewster's Andrew Hutton banged it passed Dekker to make it 4-2. That was all that the Bluefins could muster as they dropped yet another tough contest in which they outshot their opponents 53-31.
The Bluefins take the ice again Saturday night vs the Danbury Whalers at 7pm at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center. The Bluefins will welcome special guests Lower Cape Coyotes Youth Hockey and the Community Leadership Institute of Cape Cod & Islands. Felten's Hat-Trick Fuels A's Win
BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators picked up their second win in as many nights against the Danbury Whalers with a 6-2 victory on Friday night at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Federal Hockey League action. Jesse Felten led the way for the Aviators offensively with three goals and an assist for four points on the contest.
Brooklyn struck first in the opening period on Matt Atsoff's 15th tally of the season at the 14:44 mark. Aviators defenseman Andrew Scampoli broke into the Whalers zone along the right wing, and fed Atsoff with a pass in the slot. The rookie forward buried the puck past Danbury goalie Nick Niedert to give Brooklyn the 1-0 lead after one period of play.
Felten would record his first goal of the second period to put the Aviators up 2-0 at the 6:29 spot of the middle frame on a short-handed tally for his 21st marker of the year. The newly appointed assistant captain for the Aviators then buried his second of the night on the power play after redirecting Ken Trentowski's slap shot past Niedert with 10:08 left in the second. With just 38-seconds left in the frame, and down 3-0, James Sanford let a wrist shot go from the high slot which got past new A's netminder Mike DiLorenzo on the power play for the Whalers first tally on the night.
Halfway through the third period Brooklyn found the back of the net twice from Scampoli and Felten, who completed the hat trick, to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Chris Seifert's wrist shot got under the glove of DiLorenzo to make the score 5-2, however Steve Koich's late tally with 2:00 left in the game iced the 6-2 victory for Brooklyn.
DiLeorenzo earned his first win in an Aviators uniform making 36 saves, while Niedert is charged with the loss despite putting aside 29 shots.
The Aviators return to action tomorrow night when they take on the New Jersey Outlaws at the Capital One Ice Vault in Wayne, NJ. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and can be watched live via the Outlaws broadcast network powered by LiveSportsVideo.com.

Whalers lose to Aviators
BROOKLYN, NY - The Brooklyn Aviators defeated the Danbury Whalers 6-2 tonight at the Aviator Arena. The Aviators completed a sweep of this week's home-and-home and tightened their grip on third place in the Federal Hockey League standings.
In a repeat of last night's fiasco at the Ice Arena, Brooklyn tallied first in the first period as Matt Atsoff's goal was the lone score of the frame. Jesse Felten got two in the second period, one shorthanded and one on the power play. The Whalers got a much needed power play with 38 seconds in the period, as Adam Houli set up James Sanford's fifth of the season, a snipe between the circles that sailed under the bar. Brooklyn responded with the backbreaker early in the third period, as Andrew Scampoli made it 4-2. Felten completed his hat trick, making it five goals in the pair of games, before Chris Seifert got his 17th of the season from Matt Moffat and Sean O'Malley at 11:58. The Whalers tried to close the gap further with a power play but Steve Koich closed scoring in the last two minutes. The loss is the third in the Whalers last four games. Brooklyn's sweep gives them a 4-3 lead on the season series.
The Whalers look to get back on the winning track at Cape Cod tomorrow night, with game time scheduled for 7:05 PM. Danbury returns to the Ice Arena on Saturday, February 11th to host 1000 Islands, as former Trasher Alex Goupil makes his debut with the Whalers against the team he captained last season.
