Broomfield, Colo. - Broomfield Sports and Entertainment (BSE) announced today that Gene Felling, Executive Vice President of BSE and General Manager of Broomfield Event Center has been newly named CEO and General Manager following the resignation of COO and EVP Rick Nichols.
Felling will not only continue as General Manager of the Broomfield Event Center, but he will also oversee the business and marketing operations for the Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team (Central Hockey League) and the Colorado 14ers basketball team (NBA Development League).
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to expand the family friendly environment of the Rage and 14ers," said Felling. "We have great events on the ice, court and stage that are loved by families and we want the BEC to be the place for affordable family entertainment."
"The expanded management position will be a great fit for Gene, as he certainly has the capabilities needed for a bigger role at the Broomfield Event Center," said Tim Wiens, Owner. "With Gene's vast experience, we think he is a great asset and remain confident in his abilities to lead the organization."
Nichols has decided to re-activate his consulting firm Admissions Sports Consultation and relocate to the Phoenix area. Nichols and BSE have agreed to a consulting agreement beyond his time at the company. Nichols will remain on staff until August 21 to assist in transitional business.
"My wife and I have had a home in the Phoenix area for several years. We have contemplated moving there for some time and we have decided that the time for us to relocate has come. I would like to thank the city and county leaders of Broomfield and the fans for their friendship. I would also like to thank the staff, coaches and players for all their hard work during my time here. I appreciate their dedication and pride. I believe that we have made significant progress in developing the organization's attitude, professionalism and efficiency. I'm confident that the staff will continue to develop the Broomfield Event Center into a great community asset. I would also like to thank the ownership and the Wiens family of companies for their support."
"Rick has been a very strong asset to both the Broomfield Event Center and for both of our sports teams. He provided the assistance we needed through a critical time," said Wiens. "I've had the pleasure to work closely with Rick for the past 18 months. He has a strong sense of the sports environment, and I'm sure he will do very well as he moves on to a consulting capacity. We wish him well."
