FCE Amway Match Preview: FC Edmonton vs Ottawa Fury FC - April 23
April 22, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB (April 22, 2014) - FC Edmonton will meet Ottawa Fury FC in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championships on Wednesday, April 23 (5:30 p.m. MT KO) before returning home for the second leg on April 30.
The two teams will go head-to-head in a home and away round, with the winner advancing on goals aggregate over the two rounds. The winner of the home and home tie will join Canada's three MLS teams, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Montreal Impact, and Toronto FC, in the semi-finals.
The ACC will be the first ever meeting between Canada's two North American Soccer League (NASL) teams before meeting in league play in July.
"I'd think that we're going in as favourites just because we're an established NASL side," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "So it's a new kind of pressure on us."
The Eddies have a quick turnaround after a disappointing 1-0 loss to the reigning Soccer Bowl champion New York Cosmos on Saturday.
"The guys didn't need a really big lecture this morning," said Miller. "They knew we underachieved given how we trained this week and how well we played the previous week."
The Eddies expect a boost by the return of midfielder Mike Banner and defender Eddie Edward against Ottawa.
"It's like getting two new signings in all honesty," said Miller about the two players. "We're looking forward to having them back in the line up."
Fans will remember the Eddies match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the ACC last season. FC Edmonton fell short to the 'Caps by losing 3-2 at Commonwealth Stadium and 2-0 away at BC Place, for a total aggregate of 5-2.
FC Edmonton fans will be able to watch the match live onwww.canadasoccer.com (http://www.canadasoccer.com/) or by heading to the Pint Downtown to watch with fellow Eddies supporters.Tickets for the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championships at Clarke Stadium are available online at www.fcedmonton.com and start at $10 through participating Edmonton YMCA locations for the YMCA Family Fun Zone.
