FCC Travels to Tampa Bay in USL Quarterfinal Action

FC Cincinnati News Release


FCC earned a playoff berth for the second straight year and finishes the regular season as the six seed following a 4-3 win at Toronto FC II last Sun.

The team will travel to Tampa Bay Rowdies this Sat., Oct. 21 at Al Lang Stadium at 7:30 p.m. with the match to be aired on WSTR.

FCC is unbeaten in seven of the last eight fixtures, their only loss in the stretch recorded against Ottawa Fury FC (0-4).

Should FCC best the Rowdies, the Orange and Blue would play the winner of No. 2 Charleston Battery-No. 7 New York Red Bulls II.

ABOUT TAMPA BAY

Tampa Bay, which joined the USL this year, ended the season 14-7-11 with 53 points.

The team is unbeaten in the last seven matches with their last loss recorded against New York Red Bulls II, a 4-2 decision back on Sept. 2.

The Rowdies have 13 players who have scored a goal this year with Georgi Hristov topping the team with 13.

Martin Paterson is second on the team with nine.

Marcel Schaefer is the team's playmaker with 11 assists and Matt Pickens has nine clean sheets in 29 appearances in goal.

FCC trails in the series against Tampa Bay Rowdies at 0-2-1.

The Rowdies recorded a 1-0 win in U.S. Open Cup action last year on a goal from Hristov.

The two sides logged a 1-1 tie at Nippert Stadium with Harrison Delbridge equalizing a Marcel Schäfer goal.

The Rowdies then handed FCC a 2-0 loss at Al Lang Stadiium in July with goals from Martin Paterson and Joe Cole.

WALKER VOTED TO TEAM OF THE WEEK

Kenney Walker led FCC to a 4-3 win in the regular-season finale with a goal and an assist to secure his third USL Team of the Week accolade.

Walker assisted on Danni König's goal that opened the scoring for FCC in the 41st minute.

He then put away his second goal of the season to tie the score at two goals apiece in the 49th minute in April.

Walker ends the regular season as the team leader with seven assists.

HOYTE WITH GAME WINNER

Justin Hoyte provided the game-winner to cap the come-from-behind win against Toronto FC II.

Hoyte, who posted his second goal of the season, put away the assist by Walker in the 86th minute.

Djiby made it an even dozen with a goal that tied the score at 3-3 in the 66th minute with the assist going to Jimmy McLaughlin.

It is the third time FCC has scored four goals this year.

TEAM LEADERS

Djiby (12) and Danni (11) have combined for 23 goals and 14 players have scored at least one goal for FCC this year. Mitch Hildebrandt is the USL leader with 100 saves to go along with seven clean sheets over 31 appearances.
