FC Edmonton News Release
WHERE ARE THE GOALS?: FC Edmonton has now gone three straight matches without scoring a goal, picking up one draw and two losses over that stretch. With only two goals in their first four matches, they'll need to rectify this quickly, lest the spring season completely slip out of reach. The Eddies only goals came against Valour, so perhaps seeing a familiar foe is the remedy they require.
CONCACAF QUALIFYING: FC Edmonton's match against Valour FC is another CONCACAF League qualifying match. Each of FC Edmonton, Valour and Forge FC have played two matches, with the Hamilton squad sitting on six points, the Eddies on three, while Valour have zero. A win for Edmonton would see them level with Forge atop the mini round robin standings.
CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP: FC Edmonton will get their first taste of Voyageurs Cup action on June 5th when they visit York9 FC. It will also be the first time these two clubs meet this season. FC Edmonton received a bye into the second round of the Canadian Championship, while York9 FC had to grind out a 1-0 aggregate victory over a difficult AS Blainville squad. This is a competition Head Coach Jeff Paulus says he will take very seriously, so it will be interesting to see how he approaches these matches.
BUSY SCHEDULE: FC Edmonton is in the midst of a stretch which sees them play three matches over eight days, which began on Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to Forge FC. Squad rotation and proper recovery will be paramount, as the schedule will continue to be tricky for the rest of the season, particularly if the Eddies advance in the Canadian Championship and/or the CONCACAF League.
