EDMONTON, AB (April 24, 2015) - FC Edmonton has announced today to the agreed release of Icelandic midfielder Oskar Hauksson from his one-year loan with the Eddies to return to KR Reykjavik.

"We're all disappointed that it hasn't worked out the way we had hoped," said FC Edmonton's head coach Colin Miller. "I couldn't guarantee Oskar a starting position every week and a player of his experience would want to be playing every week. I can't promise a starting spot to anyone at the moment."

Hauksson will return to Iceland in time to prepare for the start of KR Reykjavik's season. He made his FC Edmonton debut in the Canadian Tire Home Opener in a 1-1 draw against Carolina RailHawks on April 12.

The native of Iceland has spent the majority of his professional soccer career in his home country. In the 2014 season with KR Reykjavik, Hauksson played over 1,700 minutes and scored four times, with half of those goals resulting in a victory for the team. KR's current 2014 record stands at 10-4-5 (W-T-L) with Hauksson starting in all but two matches.

"Both parties have come to an amicable agreement that it's the best for Oskar to head back to Iceland to prepare for the start of the Icelandic season," said Miller. "We wish him all the best and hope that he continues to follow the Eddies."

FC Edmonton's next home match at Clarke Field is for for the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championships on Wednesday, April 29 versus Ottawa Fury FC at 8:00 p.m. MT .
