NEW YORK (Tuesday, April 21, 2015) - FC Dallas forward Fabian Castillo was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the seventh week of the 2015 MLS season.
A first half brace from Castillo helped propel FC Dallas to a wild 3-2 win over Toronto FC in a game that took five hours to complete due to a three-hour weather delay at Toyota Stadium. Castillo's first goal, scored just 29 seconds into the match, was the fastest goal scored in club history and the 16th fastest in MLS history.
Castillo's first came as FC Dallas midfielder Moises Hernandez picked up the ball in his own half and played a fantastic through ball that split the Toronto defense, finding a streaking Castillo. The speedy winger latched onto the ball, burning Toronto defender Nick Hagglund in the process, and chipped goalkeeper Joe Bendik at the near post.
The 22-year-old would double his total just 10 minutes later, when Panamanian international Blas Perez played a wonderful through ball in behind the Toronto back line that found Castillo on the left wing. The Colombian cut inside and bent a beautiful right-footed shot to the far post past an outstretched Bendik. The two-goal game was Castillo's second career multi-goal game in MLS.
FC Dallas secured the win in the 27th minute, when Perez picked up a Toronto turnover inside the box and fired a left-footed strike into the back of the net.
FC Dallas return to action on this week's Viernes de Futbol, when they travel to Dick's Sporting Goods Park to take on the Colorado Rapids at 10 p.m. ET (UDN).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
