NOTES:

* FC Dallas advances to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals and will face the Charleston Battery (USL 1) at Pizza Hut Park on Tuesday, July 8 (7:30 p.m. CT). Charleston defeated the Houston Dynamo tonight in penalty kicks. * Dallas is now 23-11 all-time in U.S. Open Cup play. * FC Dallas has reached the Open Cup Quarterfinals for the fifth straight year and the 11th time overall. * FCD improves to 16-3 all-time in the tournament against non-MLS clubs, including six straight wins versus USL opponents. * Abe Thompson tonight became Dallas' all-time leading scorer in Open Cup history (6 goals), moving two ahead of Jason Kreis. * Thompson has now scored in three straight U.S. Open Cup games dating back to 2007. * Dominic Oduro registered his first career USOC assist on Thompson's first half goal. * Drew Moor, who wore the captain's armband tonight, provided the assist on Thompson's game-winner. * Chase Wileman made his professional debut tonight, starting on the left side of the midfield. * This was the first win for Schellas Hyndman as FC Dallas head coach. * Tonight's attendance was 6,559. * This was the second of a four games in nine days stretch for FC Dallas. * Dallas resumes MLS regular season play against the Kansas City Wizards at Pizza Hut Park on Fri. July 4 (6 p.m. CT on HDNet). * Schellas Hyndman on the game: "I'm proud of the players for continuing to try and play good soccer. And, I thought Abe was outstanding in those few seconds it took him to score the first goal and then in extended time and of course just before we went to overtime he scored the second goal to win the game for us. But I like what I see from the guys. I like their character; they're working hard for each other. We're getting more people into the penalty box, we're getting more scoring opportunities, and that was not an easy team to play against because they had so much focus and of course they had the lead."

"I'm very very happy with the win and I hope there's many more the come. It's special. It's the first win which makes it a special win. It may be the win that I'll remember my whole life, that's how special it is. And I think it's nice to get that at home where our fans could see our team play with character."
