FC Cincinnati to Host CF Pachuca on Tuesday to Kick off Leagues Cup

FC Cincinnati will host Liga MX side CF Pachuca on Tuesday, August 4 to begin Phase One of Leagues Cup 2026. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. ET from TQL Stadium.

Tuesday is a first-ever meeting between the Orange and Blue and Los Tuzos, who have played in the Queen City before. Pachuca fell, 2-1, to RB Salzburg at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in a Group Stage match at TQL Stadium on June 18, 2025.

The Orange and Blue will also face Pumas on Friday and Atlas FC (August 11) in Phase One as FC Cincinnati look to advance to the Leagues Cup Quarterfinals as one of the top-four MLS sides based on points to advance in the competition.

Riding Momentum - FC Cincinnati are coming off a big win Saturday against San Jose Earthquakes. The 4-2 win over San Jose marked another comeback win for FCC, with three goals coming from the 79th minute onwards. Evander's one goal, three assist night earned him Team of the Matchday honors, announced earlier Monday.

Success In Quick Turnarounds - FC Cincinnati will be playing on short rest for much of August. Tuesday marks FC Cincinnati's 45th match under Head Coach Pat Noonan on just two-days rest. Since 2022, FCC are 22-12-11 in such matches.

Kévin Could - Kévin Denkey scored in his FC Cincinnati debut in Concacaf Champions Cup (2/19/25 at MOT), MLS play (2/21/25 vs RBNY) and in the MLS Cup Playoffs (10/27/25 vs CLB) and seeks to score in his first-ever Leagues Cup match when he takes the field in this year's tournament.

FC Cincinnati In Leagues Cup - FC Cincinnati are 4-2-4 (2-2 in Match-Deciding Shootouts) all-time in Leagues Cup, and 5-2-4 including a win over Chivas Guadalajara in the 2022 Leagues Cup Showcase. For the first time, the Orange and Blue seek to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament after the new format introduced in 2025 which featured just the top-four MLS and top-four Liga MX sides advancing past Phase One.

FC Cincinnati vs Liga MX - FC Cincinnati are 5-5-3 all-time in all competitions against Mexican clubs from Liga MX. The Orange and Blue split home results with Tigres UANL earlier this season in the Concacaf Champions Cup but fell on aggregate.

A Rare Tuesday - The Pachuca match marks just the eighth all-time matchup for FC Cincinnati (since 2019) on a Tuesday, the first since March 11, 2025 at Tigres UANL in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The Pachuca Los Tuzos (Gophers) were founded in 1892 by English miners and was initially known as the Pachuca Football Club. It was later named Pachua Athletic Club a few years later, after merging with Pachuca Cricket Club and Valasco Cricket Club. It was one of the first founding soccer teams in the Mexican League in 1902, winning their first league title in the 1904-05 season.

The team was later disbanded after the mining industry collapsed, forcing them to move to Mexico City for better opportunities. The team would soon be disbanded once again, reestablishing as Club de Futbol Pachuca in 1960.

Finishing 4th overall in the most recent 2025-26 Clausura season, C.F. Pachuca has made changes in hopes of seeing some progress within the club after going 9-4-4 to conclude the season. New head coach Benjamín Mora took over the Los Tuzos after the departure of Esteban Solari last June.

The Los Tuzos won the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, their sixth continental title, the second most successful club in the tournament's history.

Last week, Pachuca had four representatives for LIGA MX in the 2026 MLS All-Star game. Goalkeeper Carlos Moreno, forward Alexi Domìnguez, center-forward Salómon Rondņn, and defender Elías Montiel represented Los Tuzos.

During Leagues Cup 2025, Pachuca made it to the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by the LA Galaxy in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.

Pachuca currently sits 13th in the standings for the Apertura season.
