FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., Jan. 7 -- The Fayetteville Patriots opened the second quarter with an 11-4 run, and then followed with an 18-4 spurt late in the period to break open a close game and roll to a 121-105 win in NBA D-League action at the Crown Coliseum Friday night.

The loss followed a three-point loss to Roanoke on Friday that was tainted by 10 technical fouls and a pair of ejections between the two teams.

"We had 30 turnovers last, tonight we had eight at halftime," said Fayetteville coach Mike Brown. "We played smarter and you usually win when you play that way."

After Fayetteville built a 28-25 first quarter lead, Erik Daniels opened the second with a dunk, followed by a trio of Melvin Sanders jumpers, the last of which was a three-pointer, and the lead increased to 10.

Later in the period, Butta Johnson followed a pair of free throws with a pair of jumpers and a layup to stretch the lead to 16.

The Patriots held the Dazzle to just 17 points in the stanza and led 64-42 at the intermission.

"We allowed our defense to create easy scoring opportunities," Brown said. "And anytime you hold a team to 17 points in a quarter you're going to have success. Our guys didn't fall into Roanoke's trap of running up and down the floor with them. They were very disciplined tonight."

Roanoke was never able to cut the lead to less than double figures and the lead was as many as 25 in the fourth. Daniels and Sanders finished with 21 points each, while Johnson and Roderick Riley had 20 apiece.

"That balance isn't necessarily what you shoot for, but our guys are sharing the ball," Brown said. "It's hard to defend a team playing that way."

Will Bynum paced the Dazzle with 19 points and Anthony Grundy added 17.
