San Antonio Scorpions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The judges have narrowed 300 entries in the "Design Our Team Logo" contest to three, and now fans can help determine which of the three finalists will become the logo of San Antonio's new pro soccer team, the Scorpions FC.
Fans will be asked to vote for their favorite design at www.SoccerforaCause.com from Tuesday, Feb. 15, until 5 p.m. CST Monday, Feb. 28. Plans also call for ballots to be printed in the San Antonio Express-News. The winning logo will be unveiled in early March.
The "Design Our Team Logo" finalist garnering the most votes from Scorpions fans will win a prize package consisting of $1,000 in cash, a VIP outing for 20 guests at a 2012 Scorpions home game and a selection of team gear such as a hat, team jersey and t-shirts bearing the new logo. The runner-up will receive a team jersey and 10 tickets to a 2012 Scorpions home game.
Fans who vote in the team logo selection process will be entered in a drawing, and the winner chosen at random will receive a package of team gear and four tickets to a Scorpions game. In order to vote, a fan must submit his or her contact information, and he or she can cast not more than one ballot a day.
"The judges believe the three designs selected as finalists convey the tenacity and feistiness South Texas scorpions are known for," said Gordon Hartman, who's heading Soccer for a Cause, the community-wide effort that's bringing pro soccer to San ntonio to further boost the sport's growing popularity and to benefit Morgan's Wonderland, the world's first ultra-accessible family fun park designed with special-needs individuals of all ages in mind.
Hartman said plans continue to move forward so the Scorpions can take the field early next year and compete in the North American Soccer League (NASL), just one step removed from Major League Soccer (MLS).
"As far as we know, this is the first time a pro sports team has been organized to benefit those with special needs," Hartman said. "Morgan's Wonderland has profoundly touched the lives of special-needs children and adults, their families and friends. Last year during our first season, we attracted more than 100,000 guests from 47 states and 13 other countries.
"It takes a lot of money to operate and maintain the park, especially when you admit special-needs individuals free of charge. The Scorpions will generate revenue that will help make it possible to keep Morgan's Wonderland open and in tip-top shape for years and years to come."
The new team logo likely will play a prominent role in yet another competition, the "Select Our Uniform" contest tentatively scheduled for March and April. "This is San ntonio's team," Hartman noted, "so we're involving fans every step of the way toward actual N SL competition next year."
Fans who don't want to miss any Scorpions action can reserve season seats for the 2012 inaugural season. A $25 deposit will place the fan on a priority list and give him or her the right to select a specific seat location at a "Select Your Seat" event.
To reserve their season seat plan, fans can visit www.SoccerforaCause.com, call toll-free (855) 333-2012 or stop by STAR Soccer between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Scorpions fans also can follow the building of their team at
