Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry News Release

FORT SILL, OKLA.- Fans who have been waiting months to see the Oklahoma Cavalry in action finally got their chance to see the Cavalry showcase their talent in a 145-93 win over the Fort Sill Cannoneers in exhibition play.

Rinehart Fitness Center was filled to capacity with fans, including 600 soldiers, who enjoyed a night of great basketball and entertainment.

Oklahoma Cavalry Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson said it was a good game, and it was nice to finally see how the players played against another team.

"I thought the guys played well," Coach Richardson said. "Having to play 14 guys, it makes it a little difficult to maintain any consistency on the floor, but overall I was pleased."

Playing the entire squad, there is no surprise that the Cavs had balanced scoring across the board. Eight Cavs players scored in double-digits led by Forward Judson Stubbs with 17 points. Forward Darold Crow and Guard Jeremy Bell chipped in with 16 and 15 points respectively. Curtis Haywood contributed 14 points and had a hot hand behind the arc on 3-of-5 three-point shooting.

Rounding out the double-digit scoring for the Cavs were Forward Malcolm Johnson, Forward Daryan Selvy and Center Walt Walters with 13 points each and Guard Albert Robinson with 12 points.

The Cavs were in control for most of the game, but the Cannoneers had a few offensive spurts of their own. They were led by SSG Jeff Anderson with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. SPC Ricky Tukufu poured in 14 points and SGT Anthony Fleming contributed 11 points.

Cannoneers Head Coach Alec Bradley said he thought his team played well for it being their third game in the last three days.

"I thought it was an outstanding game and am proud of my team for playing so hard," Coach Bradley said. "The Cavs have a very good squad, and I'm sure they will have a great season."

Following the game, the Cavs will have to narrow down to the final 10-man roster. The final roster will be released Nov. 12.

The Cavs begin their regular season Nov. 17 on the road against Rio Grande Valley. They will then return for their home-opener against East Kentucky at the Great Plains Coliseum Nov. 20. Tickets are still available and more information can be obtained by calling 580-353-CAVS (2287).
