Fans Encouraged To Vote For MVP Nominees

Moncton, NB - The Moncton Wildcats have announced their nominees for the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2009-2010 season. The Award will be presented by team president Mr. Robert Irving, next Thursday night, March 18th at the 14th annual Awards Night and Pep Rally. The event will be held at Moncton's Wesleyan Celebration Centre starting at 7pm.

Four players, selected by the coaching staff are in the running for the award, which will be determined by votes from the fans. Ballots are being published each day in the Times&Transcript, the title sponsor of the Awards Night. Completed votes can be dropped off at Pizza Delight locations in Moncton, Riverview, Dieppe, Bouctouche, Richibucto, Shediac and Cap Pele and also at the Roar Store at the Moncton Coliseum.

The four nominees are David Savard, Scott Brannon, Nicola Riopel and Nicolas Deschamps.

Davis Savard is in his third year with the Moncton Wildcats and has had an outstanding season as part of a strong Moncton defensive corps. Going into the final four games of the season, he now holds the Wildcats record of most assists in a season with 62 and has also added 13 goals. His plus/minus for the year stands at 29.

Team captain Scott Brannon is another of the MVP nominees. Providing offensive leadership with 35 goals along with 18 assists and a plus/minus of 12, Brannon is considered one of the best two-way players in the QMJHL this season. With one of the hardest shots in the League, Brannon can also hand out thunderous body checks and provide perfect play making.

Last year's QMJHL Most Valuable Player, goaltender Nicola Riopel is again being considered as the Wildcats MVP for this season. Rio joined the Cats during the Christmas break after being reassigned by the Philadelphia Flyers. His impact was immediate, he brought top notch net-minding along with outstanding leadership qualities to the Wildcats dressing room.

Scoring leader Nicolas Deschamps is the fourth Wildcat nominated for MVP honors. Obtained in a trade from Chicoutimi during the Christmas period, Deschamps could become the first Wildcat to capture the League scoring title. In 60 games, he has scored 39 goals and added 55 assists. He has a plus/minus of 21.

It will be a close race to determine the final winner and we'll know the results on the 18th.
