Falcons Swept in Victoria
June 8, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release
It wasn't the start the Kelowna Falcons were hoping for after a 7-6 loss in Victoria on Friday night to drop the club to 0-3 to open the season.
Like the previous games, the Falcons jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning scoring twice on Harbourcats miscues. Darren Kolk and Nathan Robertson would tally the runs.
The Falcons would add another in their next at bats on a Robertson RBI single to score Robert Grilli to put the visitors in front 3-0.
However in the bottom of the inning the Cats would tie and take the lead by scoring four runs off starter Caleb Olson. All four runs were unearned.
The Falcons would come right back and tie it in the top of the third as Chandler Tracy would hit his second homer of the series on a 1-1 count.
In the home half of the sixth the Cats would score three more times off Olson with two outs to regain the lead.
The Falcons showed some fight in the seventh scoring twice to get within one. Reed Lavallee and Preston Gray would collect RBIs but it was as close as the Falcons would come.
Olson was hit with the loss despite 5.2 solid innings and striking out seven.
The Falcons would outhit the Cats 10-5, but three errors defensively did the damage.
The Falcons will now board the bus and the ferry on Saturday morning and head for Elks Stadium for the 2013 home opener presented by Kon Kast Products and admission is FREE. Gates open at 5:30, first pitch at 6:30pm as they take on the Bend Elks.
