Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Monday the addition of Joe Lavin to the 2013-14 roster, signing the third-year defenseman to a one-year, AHL contract.

Lavin, who spent the last two seasons with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, accumulated 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) with 36 penalty minutes in 110 games over that span and was named the team's Rookie of the Year in 2011-12. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder joined the IceHogs at the end of the 2010-11 regular season after finishing his collegiate career as captain at the University of Notre Dame (NCAA, D-I). Lavin also played for Providence College (NCAA, D-I) and the Omaha Lancers (USHL) before beginning his professional career.

The Shrewsbury, Massachusetts native was a fifth-round selection (126th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
