Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced on Thursday that they have recalled goaltender Mike Clemente from the CHL's Missouri Mavericks.
Clemente, a rookie, is 2-0-1 with a .910 save percentage and a 3.01 goals-against average in three games with the Mavericks in 2012-2013. He participated in six games with the Falcons at the end of 2011-2012 after completing his four-year career at Brown University (NCAA, D-I). With Springfield, Clemente went 2-1-0 with a .930 save percentage, a 1.99 goals-against average, and a shutout. From 2008 to 2012 at Brown, Clemente posted a 32-54-14 record to go along with a .908 save percentage, a 3.03 goals-against average and three shutouts in 107 outings. The 22-year-old set a career high at Brown of 12 wins in his sophomore season of 2009-2010 and secured four-year bests in save percentage (.930) and goals-against average (2.67) in his freshman campaign of 2008-2009.
Clemente's recall stems from a minor injury sustained by Paul Dainton in practice this week. Dainton's status is day-to-day.
The Falcons, who lead the Eastern Conference with 11 points and have tied a franchise record through seven games with a 5-1-0-1 start to the season, welcome the Hershey Bears to the MassMutual Center for the only time in 2012-2013 on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans 12 and under in attendance will receive a free lunchbox courtesy of New England Pathology Associates. Prior to the game, Westfield State University and Western New England University will battle for the Fifth Annual Falcons Cup at 3:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office. After an idle Saturday, Springfield closes out the weekend with the first of 12 meetings with the Connecticut Whale, as the Falcons head to the XL Center on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
